sir,

Vith reference to your despatch No. 929 of the

13th August, 1934 enclosing the reply of the United State

34 Government to tho enquiry eddressed to them by Hie Vejertele

Government regarding the export of aras to China, I have

the honour to inform you that the Counsellor to the French

Embanay called here in this connexion on the 12th February.

He informed Sir Victor Wellesley thrt the French Government

had, subsequent to the enquiry undertaken by His Majesty's

Government in August, 1934, themselves enquired of eight

Governmenta ea to their attitude, All the replios thich

they had received appeared to be satisfactory with the

execption of the Japanese renly. In view of I. Cambon's

enquiry it seems to me appropriate that the ranch and

United States Governmenta should now be informed of the

position as it tppears to His .. Junty'a government.

Ze In August 1934, His Majesty's (overnment, through

the diplomatic representatives in the various capitals

concerned, addressed enquiries to the French, Belgian,

Italian, United fitotes, Japanese, Czechoslovskian, Swedish,

3ponich, Swiss, Polish, Danish and Norvegien Governments.

From the replies received it appeared that the attitudes adopted by all Governments except the Polish, the Belgian, the Swiss and the Japanese, were wholly satisfactory, in that they indicate unqualified compliance with the Chinese

Government's

His Excellency

The Right Honourable

Sir Ronald Lindsay, O.C.M.G., K.CB.,

etc.,
